Easy As Pie!
When I was in Florida I also went to my first workshop. Not only did I teach one but I went to one. It was very good. I got a lot out of it. I mostly shoot high school seniors and this conference had me thinking a lot about my value. So many times I under value myself. I cut myself short because a lack of confidence in the business side of things. I’m confident in my work as a photographer but when it comes to selling my work is where I tend to fall short. I can’t believe I am admitting this but since going to this workshop I have completely changed my attitude.
I am no longer going to shoot something that is not my style. If a senior wants to pose (hug) a tree I will just turn them down. I’m tired of shooting for them. They come to me because of the unique style that I have. (this conference was a huge self esteem booster….can’t ya tell!!) Anyway, I will allow myself to turn down potential clients if I don’t feel like we are going to match.
Well, after coming home from this conference I decided I’m going to look for an intern to do all of my sales and marketing since I stink at it. I get way to emotional over my work and I let it affect the sale. I need someone who isn’t emotionally attached to my work but still loves my work and can sell my work. I am really tired of customers treating me with disrespect and allowing them to walk all over me. I am taking charge of my business and if it means putting someone into the sales position I’m going to have to let that go.
So that brings me to this. I was on one of my photography forums and saw an ad about Alicia Caine’s new book: Easy As Pie - Pricing Cookbook. Since it’s the new year and I’m starting to vamp things up for my upcoming seniors and I really needed help getting this all situated. I decided to get the book. And let me tell you it is helping me and opening my eyes even more to the pricing and how to market myself. I got a lot of good ideas at the workshop I attended but nothing really clear cut. Alicia’s book is helping me to price myself where I want to be and giving me lots of examples on how to do it. It’s also pretty funny too!
Alicia has been so kind and giving all of the Rock That OCF Readers a nice little discount! If you want to purchase her book you can type in RockThat for your discount code. It’s $15.00 off the price! Click on the link on the right side of my blog to go to Alicia’s website!
I already have a great heads start on my new pricing for my 2010 Seniors! I’m no longer going to cut myself short and I will be confident in my pricing! None of us should cut ourselves short. It’s all about perception too!
Last year my averages for my seniors were around 950.00 and this year my goal is to have averages near 1500.00 a senior. I want to be able to delegate my sales to someone so I can shoot more seniors. Why? because I don’t like sales! I like shooting!!!
Rock That OCF Workshops! They are in the works! I’ve been talking with quite a few readers here and we are planning on going to a few places already. Once we have dates set etc I will announce them. If you are interested in hosting a workshop please contact me via email.
